Called to Serve

After many months of anticipation, our mission call finally arrived in the mail on November 1, 2013. With great excitement we drove to Brittany and Corey's home to open it with our family. After connecting with Jameson, Laura, and Rachel on Skype and labeling the world map with family members' guesses, we opened that big white envelope from President Thomas S. Monson. We were thrilled to be called as Public Affairs missionaries to the United Kingdom and were to report to the MTC on May 7, 2014. Dan was ecstatic about returning to serve in England--he served in the Leeds Manchester Mission as a young missionary--and I felt overjoyed about being called to a first-world country we already know and love!
The exciting moment every missionary anticipates!
We will live in Solihull where the Public Affairs Office is located (not far from Birmingham), and we will travel throughout the UK and parts of the Netherlands and Germany to attend conferences and to fulfill various assignments. We will report directly to the Area Presidency.

The coming months with be filled with much preparation, lots of time with our five grandchildren, fulfilling responsibilities for the nonprofit organization we're involved with, and yes, even some world travel. We are filled with anticipation and look forward to serving full time as companions as we strive to further the Lord's work.

However, no one said it's going to be easy to leave our precious grandchildren. After we opened our call, our little Madeleine looked up and asked, "Who will be my Grandma and Grandpa while you're gone?" That's when the tears started! But we have faith that our mission will influence the lives of our children and grandchildren and that they will witness the blessings that come from missionary service. We are humbled and honored to have what we know will certainly be a grand and meaningful experience.
